Born and raised in Edmonton Alberta, Kieran, like many Canadian kids, grew-up dreaming of one day playing in the National Hockey League. He always worked hard in his training both on and off the ice as he strived for his dream, but he never forgot the importance of his education, graduating from high school while playing major junior hockey and winning the WHL championship for the Medicine Hat Tigers in 2004.
Kieran also played for the University of Alberta Golden Bears where he earned his bachelor degree of education. He currently works as a substitute teacher for the Edmonton Public School Board. Maybe someday he will be teaching at our school.
Kieran has had some major challenges in his life that has led to him to representing his country as a member of team Canada’s sledge hockey team and now works towards his new goal of winning Paralympic gold for Canada at the 2014 winter Paralympics in Sochi, Russia. He is here to share his story with us.
Kieran (Block) is an excellent presenter, very captivating and relates well with the students. He was very ‘real’ to his story and included real life scenarios. GREAT JOB!

Kieran was fantastic! The students were very engaged in his story, and commented that it was so much more interesting than the regular drug and alcohol lecture. And the elementary loved the hockey cards! A very enjoyable day for all!

Kieran taught me that you should always stay positive and go for your goals and dreams no matter how tough your obstacles are. I loved the stories he told. He was a good speaker that was easy and interesting to listen to. It was one of the best presentations I have seen.
