Benoit St-Amand (Bilingual/Bilingue)

Born on April 19th 1978, Benoit spent the first 6 years of his life in Longueuil, QC. At the age of 6, his parents bought a house in St-Hubert, QC. Benoit studied at the Mille-Fleurs elementary school (grade 1 and 2) and at the Charles-Lemoyne elementary school (grade 3 through 6). Benoit did the rest of his high school studies at the André-Laurendeau high school (grade 7 to 11). In April of 1993, at the age of 15, Benoit was diagnosed with a bone cancer.

After many chemotherapy treatments, operations, and a life changed forever, Benoit had his right leg amputated.

Following this operation, Benoit tried to get back to a normal life but only one thing remained: Sports.

In 2003, Benoit started to play sledge hockey with a group of friends in Montreal and in September of 2004, he was accepted on the National Sledge Hockey Team as a forward. During his second season on the team, Benoit went from forward to backup goalie.

Since then, Benoit helped the National Team in win many international events, including the Torino Paralympics in March 2006 and the Marlborough World Championships in March of 2008. Benoit was in Vancouver for the 2010 Paralympic games where the team finished 4th.

Winning a gold medal at my first paralympics in Turin (2006).
