Motivate Canada’s ESTEEM Team is set to add a new Olympic champion to its roster of talented athletes and youth motivational speakers. Canadian Olympic curling silver medalist, Cheryl Bernard, is the latest member of the ESTEEM Team.
Motivate Canada’s Esteem Team is made up of a group of top-level athletes from all across Canada who deliver the positive message of goal-setting and healthy living to youth through their personal stories of struggles, perseverance and success.
Bernard knows firsthand the challenges and perseverance required to obtain success. In 2010 she became well known to Canadians, after representing Team Canada at the Winter Olympics as the team’s skip, winning a silver medal in the women’s curling final. Bernard is also a four time Alberta women’s champion, Canadian runner-up, TSN skins finalist and has maintained a top-5 status on the world curling tour for the past 8 years.
With all of her success Cheryl has never lost sight of the need to give back. She has volunteered for the Sandra Schmirler Foundation, the 2010 Terry Fox Run and has done promotional work for the Alberta Children’s Hospital, Children’s Miracle Network and many more charitable organizations.
“It is a privilege to be involved with Motivate Canada. I believe sport is important for the healthy development of today’s youth, it teaches some of the most fundamental human values; dedication, hard work, perseverance and team work. Success in sport transfers to success in life,” says Bernard.
Aside from curling which she started at the age of eight, Bernard also co-wrote Between the Sheets: Creating Curling Champions, a book about the mental aspects of curling, with journalist Guy Scholz. She also started her own insurance agency when she was only 23-years-old, and the company reached $6 million in sales before she sold it.
“We are elated to have Cheryl join our roster of Esteem Team Athlete Role Models. She is not only a great athlete, but her stories of inspiration on and off the ice embodies everything Motivate Canada believes in,” Mark Sluban, Program Manager ESTEEM Team.
Bernard lives with her husband, curler Terry Meek, and stepson Connor Meek in Calgary, Alberta. Motivate Canada is pleased to welcome such a talented athlete who’s perseverance and dedication is an inspiration to all those who cross her path.
The Esteem Team is a program of Motivate Canada, a national organization that specializes in the research and development of programs that help young people meet life’s challenges and reach their full potential. For more information about the Esteem Team, please visit: www.esteemteam.com
