The Active Circle was developed by Motivate Canada, in partnership with the Aboriginal Sport Circle, to support Aboriginal communities across Canada to become vibrant, active and healthy and for their youth to be leaders in making this happen.
The Active Circle works with program, funding and government partners to reduce the administrative burden on community leaders and reduce duplication. Components of the Active Circle include a comprehensive resource website which includes a broad variety of information relating Aboriginal sport and recreation, support to selected communities to develop and delivery sport, physical activity and recreation programs, and an Aboriginal youth internship program which not only builds the skills of the interns but provides much needed human resource support to the community programs.
The Advisory Committee of the Active Circle is a volunteer group of individuals representing Aboriginal organizations, national program delivery organizations, communities and youth. These representatives are First Nation, Inuit, Métis and non-Aboriginal. Led by an Elder, the Advisory Committee is responsible for providing strategic leadership in the ongoing development of the Active Circle.
