GEN7 is an Aboriginal Role Model program inspired and driven by Aboriginal youth.
Vision of GEN7:
To build strong Aboriginal communities through active participation and leadership by Aboriginal youth.
Objectives of GEN7:
- To promote positive Aboriginal role models
- To support Aboriginal youth in a process of self discovery and development through:
-
- increased participation and leadership in sport, physical activity and recreation;
- education and goal setting; and recognition of culture.
Ultimately, the GEN7 program aims to strengthen the spirit of Aboriginal young people, by connecting them with sport and physical activity, so they in turn feel more capable and confident to make positive community contributions.
As part of this program, Aboriginal role models (known as GEN7 Messengers) are recruited, selected and trained to inspire other Aboriginal youth through the sharing of their personal stories and experiences. GEN7 messengers encourage Aboriginal youth nationwide to live, and encourage others to live, an active and healthy lifestyle, part of which is achievable through increased participation in sport and physical activity. GEN7 Messengers connect with young people to inspire, to listen and to support youth as they tap into the power within themselves.
