Sogo Active, powered by ParticipACTION and sponsored by Coca Cola Canada, is a program created for one reason: to help youth challenge themselves and their friends to get moving. The program was designed to create a "for youth, by youth" physical activity movement to help young Canadians between the ages of 13-19 to become more active. The goal of Sogo is to solve Canada's inactivity crisis by encouraging youth and providing youth with resources to incorporate physical activity into their daily lives.
How You and Youth Can Get Involved:
Register as a Community Host:
A Community Host is an organization that is registered with Sogo Active to provide young people with the grounds, facilities, equipment, expertise or other support they need to get active.
For example, a Community Host could have its own basketball courts, offer a dance instructor, provide a weekly club or meeting geared at teens or be a part of a high school.
Community Hosts are visible to youth participants and can create challenges and events and assist youth with Sogo Active grant applications. Register today as a Sogo Active Community Host at www.sogoactive.com.
Get your Youth to sign up directly with Sogo Active:
Youth 13-19 create a unique profile for themselves on www.sogoactive.com where they can network and find a range of traditional and non-traditional activities that fit their needs, interests and lifestyles. Youth participants set and track their active living goals online, as well as network with peers and arrange group activities, challenges and events.
Host a Challenge or Event:
Challenges are proposed by youth, Community Hosts or ParticipACTION and are ongoing for a period of time (i.e. 3 times a week for 4 weeks). Events are proposed by Community Host organizations or ParticipACTION and are held one time only (like a tournament or a ‘try-it’ day).
Apply for Grants to Support your Activities:
Micro-grant funding is available for groups of youth who express a specific need for resources (i.e.. equipment, transportation, coaching, instructing, nutrition). All grants must be linked to a challenge, so the application form is accessible through the “Create Your Own” Challenge section on www.sogoactive.com. A maximum of $250 is available for one-time events and up to $500 is available for on-going activities (a minimum of 8 week)
