WHAT IS IT?

The Sogo Leaders in Action program is a partnership between ParticipACTION’s, Sogo Active program and Motivate Canada’s, ESTEEM Team program. The program draws on the power of young people and is designed to motivate youth while providing them with mentorship and support in creating youth-led physical activity initiatives. Youth participants will have the opportunity to be inspired by an ESTEEM Team athlete role model and engage in a leadership role to develop sustainable physical activity programs in their community. The program is temporarily available for the summer months for youth organizations throughout Ontario. Limited subsidies are available to receive the program at no cost. ORGANIZATIONS WILL RECEIVE:

• An ESTEEM Team athlete motivational presentation (50 minutes).
• A Sogo Active Youth Leadership Workshop (30 minutes).
• The opportunity to have your youth mentored by a Sogo Ontario Youth Advisory Committee member.
• Ongoing opportunities to receive Sogo grant funding for challenges and events created by your youth to increase physical activity programs and initiatives at your organization. Sogo Active micro grants can be used to offset the cost of equipment, transportation, nutrition and coaching/instruction through engaging in the Sogo Active program. 

HOW TO GET INVOLVED?

In order to be eligible for the Sogo Leaders in Action program at no cost, the following steps must be completed:

• Organization must register as a Sogo Active Community host by going to www.sogoactive.com and clicking ‘register’ and ‘community host’
• Select a Sogo Youth Team of 5-10 participants (minimum) to take the lead in creating Sogo challenges and events
•  Youth ages 13-19 must register as Sogo Active Youth Members. This can be done at www.sogoactive.com, click on ‘register’ and ‘youth member’. Off-line Youth Member registration forms are available by request from the Sogo Active Ontario Provincial Coordinator,  Megan Sutherland, megan@motivatecanada.ca
