Otis Jasper is a Sto:lo citizen from the communities of Soowahlie and Cheam. He grew up off-reserve until the age of eleven when he moved home to Soowahlie, British Columbia. Throughout his youth, Otis left and returned a number of times to his home in Soowahlie and at 27 he left in pursuit of a post-secondary education to attend the University of British Columbia. Buffy Handel was raised mainly on the trap line near Island Lake. Buffy had moved from her community, 300 air miles north of Winnipeg to the city in order to elevate her education.
